Why it matters

We look beyond stars: what problem it solves, whether it creates real utility, and what makes its approach worth noticing.

Last 90 days

Problem

Addresses the repetitive setup required for developers building browser extension companions for SaaS products, covering cross-browser packaging, authentication, and entrypoints.

Practical value

Provides a WXT and React 19 based boilerplate featuring Better Auth integration, multiple UI entrypoints, shared state management, and multi-browser build scripts.

Innovation / differentiation

Combines contemporary web and extension tooling with domain-specific integration examples like authentication and distinct content scripts for SaaS workflows.

Leverage potential

Built on Bun, TypeScript, Tailwind CSS, and WXT, enabling developers to quickly build and maintain structured browser extensions.

Why now

Aligns with the industry transition to Manifest V3 and the adoption of modern frontend and extension frameworks like React 19 and WXT.

More about it

MkExt is a starter kit designed for SaaS products that require browser extensions. Built on top of the WXT framework, it allows developers to maintain a single React 19 and TypeScript codebase while outputting packages for both Chrome Manifest V3 and Firefox.

The project implements standard extension entrypoints out of the box, including Popup, Side Panel, New Tab, DevTools, and background service workers. It also demonstrates two page content injection styles: inline domain rating badges on search result pages and a floating interactive overlay on regular webpages.

On the data and auth layer, MkExt connects with Better Auth for token storage and Google Sign-In support. Combined with Bun, Biome, TanStack Query, and Tailwind CSS, it offers a complete environment for quick setup and deployment.
